Get Outta My Kitchen, Tellin' Me How to Cook!
Rumors swirled for the past few years that her obsession with fatty foods led to her type 2 diabetes diagnosis.
Last week the southern cooking diva announced on the Today show she was a diabetic. The outcry of people claiming she was a hypocrite began not even moments after her announcement.
I don't understand how the public seems to blame others for their short-comings. The responsibility is never their own and it seems like the jars of common sense sits on the shelves while stupidity sells out and consumed.
I'm pretty sure that everyone has experienced the food that's cooked from the soul. Food featuring high fat, sugar, and other ingriedients deemed unhealthy. While Paula Deen may have dishes that a good and some that are over the top, the key has always been to eat these things in moderation (or once a year depending on your health level).
Diabetes is a disease plaguing everyone from the overweight to the super skinny. Meaning that it's can be a hereditary disease. It can be caused by unhealthy weight and what kind of lifestyle you live. Yes, eating these foods every day could lead to the disease (Type 2) but the purpose of Paula's Best Dishes is to give ideas for something different.
Like with any cook, you can alter the recipe to have the dish without all of the extra stuff she does but some people just like the way comfort foods taste.
I don't think Paula sits back and eat donut burgers like tic-tacs, her diagnosis just may be hereditary. So many people jump to conclusions about someone else's business. My theory is to allow her to make dishes people love and let her run her kitchen how she wants to. If cooking ramen noodles and Spaghetti-O's out of a can is your thing, do it. Don't chastize her for putting soul in the food that EVERYONE can't get enough of.
Hypocrites. I had to use my favorite Ledisi song to inspire me.
